Giant Road Bike | Performance Road Bike | Giant Road Bikes. This website is dedicated to the Giant road bike, road bikes, performance cycles, whatever you want to call them. Frustrated with the many websites and finding it difficult to bring all the information into one spot on the web, I decided to create this website. Why? Read on…
How it all started – my first Giant TCR A1 Alliance road bike.
I’m fairly new to road cycling. Having not been in the saddle for about 25 years, I decided it was time to get back onto the road and give myself a work out. Taking your time when you first start riding again is very important I wish I had read this report on cycling fitness first. A good friend of mine is a keen cycler, has been riding a Giant road bike for some time and he opened up my eyes to cycling once more. Back when I was a teenager, in the 70′s, there were not such things as the full carbon frame, compact frames, cassette choices, 105s, Ultegra, SRAM, Dura-Ace and Campagnolo. Maybe they were around, but we sure had no need for them. And there was never as much chioce (and confusion) about which bike to buy. How do you choose between a Giant TCR Alliance, TCR Advanced SL, Giant Defy, Alliance or a Giant Trinity Advanced SL? Hopefully I can help you answer these questions by subscribing to this website. My quest began to find a road bike, a bike that would serve me for at least a year until I decided if I wanted to continue with cycling and invest in a more expensive performamce road bike. Would my fitness, or lack of it get the better of me? (I wish I had found this cycling training program earlier).Where I currently live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, there are a lot of challenging hills that could do with an oxygen tent at the top waiting for us over 40′s? Or would I simply get the cycling fever and start to re-live my youth (once the shortness of breath and dry reaching ended), which I’m happy to say it has. There’s something liberating about being out on a road bike and experiencing the challenge of “keeping on two wheels” and pushing yourself to your limits – and feeling good about it. You’re doing yourself a great favour by riding a bike, it’s a great cardio workout and you’re dropping weight which is an added bonus.
Not wanting to spend a fortune on a new bike initially, I set myself the task of learning about the ins and outs of road cycling in the 21st century. I had to find out about the brands, the gear and the jargon. Over time I somehow managed to get a handle on things, thanks to the internet, forums and the odd cycling magazine. Bicycling Australia (AUS),Cycle Sport, Ride Cycling Review and Cycling News (Road Cycling) A great resource for all things cycling and you can watch the latest. If you really want to learn about road cycling and getting familiar with performance cycling jargon, then start reading the Bicycling Australian – Road Cycling magazine , or save yourself some cash and subcribe to Bicycling Australia . After much deliberation (months actually), watching bikes on EBay and visiting the LBS, I took a punt on a lightweight Giant TCR Alliance (A1) with Ultegra groupset. Watch a short video as the guy from Giant explains what the “Alliance” name really means and another one about Compact Road Design. And so my journey started. You can view the current Giant online catalogue, check it out, it’s packed full of the latest Giant performance and competition road bikes, endurance bikes like the Defy as well as the full range of Giant bicycles for off road (or X-Road as giant calls it), lifestyle and city commuting! You can find a range of Giant Competion (TCR Advanced SL) , Road and Endurance (TCR Advanced) , Endurance (Defy Advanced SL), (Defy Advanced)

Where can you buy a Giant road bike in Australia?
Giant road bikes can be purchased through dealerships all over Australia. Here is an overview of how many Giant road bike dealers there are in Australia, by State. It’s hard to believe there are no Giant dealers in the ACT, in fact you can read a forum thread on www.bicycles.net.au about someone who was in a Giant shop in the ACT. Come on Giant, update your website. I’ll be updating this links list to link to the Giant road bike dealers website.

More on buying Giant bike prices in Taiwan
Here’s a great blog on buying Giant Road Bikes direct out of Taiwan. Some helpful advice on which bike to buy. Very good info for new Giant cyclists to get to know the brand and the current models.
(Be sure to read the comments down the bottom of the page)
This website is dedicated to helping those of us who are starting out cycling again and need a little help just figuring all this cycling stuff out. I see so many men and women of all ages out on their bikes at 5.30am. It’s great to see everyone taking up the road cycling for a healthy alternative to walking.
I’m planning on expanding this website about road cycling to include all the latest information and news on Giant bikes, because I like Giant and hey, it’s my first serious road bike so it’s worthy of a website. I reckon I can do a better job than Giant as the most recent news item I can find on their website is dated August 4th 2009 (hmmm!), things are a little bit quiet in the Giant camp eh?
If you’re new to cycling, there is a lot to absorb about cycling, especially the bike components and the variety of manufacturers that supply and build parts for the different brands of road bike out there. Most of us are familiar with the Shimano name, (www.shimano.moreso in the sport of fishing and of course cycling components. I read a really interesting review of the Shimano gearing components called Dura-Ace, which is the top of the range in the gearing system, shifters and braking system.
The range started with Sora, Tiagra (supersceded by 105), then Ultegra and Dura-Ace for the professionals out there who demand the best quality. Of course there are other competitor manufacturers who create high quality components (much akin to the highest quality watch brands like Rolex) like SRAM and Campagnolo from Italy. Here’s a good resource for all things Dura Ace from a guy called Sheldon Brown, he sure knows his stuff.

I’ll also be featuring articles on road cycling fitness, nutrition and eating the right food to give you the energy you need for those long rides. Check out this article on Bicyclingaustralia.com where with these recipies you can lose 5 kilos in 28 days and also find out where to get the best deals on all things cycling in Australia and eventually overseas – but we’ll get to that a little later.
So why not jump on board www.giant-road-bike.com and start your education – who knows, you can always contribute because I’m still learning about Giant road bikes and I certainly don’t know it all – just happy to provide this service to help other people learn about the sport of road cycling for pleasure and fitness.
Here’s a link to great US website for used Giants and Roadbikereview.com is another good place to compare prices. It’s always interesting to see the price comparisons for Giant bikes around the world. In fact, this is what this website will also feature; the prices of Giant bikes around the world.
Compare Prices On Used Giant Road Bikes | Know Your Market First
I also found another great website for used Giant road bikes in the USA is www.usedroadbikes.us. Again this is a very good resource to do your research when thinking of purchasing a used Giant road bike. If you’re like me, it’s always good to understand the market first and get a feel for what the going rate is for a used Giant road bike. On this website that sells used giant road and performance cycles
I was amazed at the prices for composite Giants, especially the Defy, starting at around NZ$3400 which is about AUD$3000, with a 105 Groupset (the lower end of the Giant gears and brakes sets). It pays to shop around and compare prices of new and used Giant bikes – even in different countries to get a feel for the brand and you might just pick up some invaluable information on them too! I’ll be creating a global pricing comparison chart to allow you to see the variances in prices across the world. A very interesting exercise as there is a lot of talk on the cycling forums about bringing in Giant bikes direct from Taiwan.
